Join our hands-on fiber arts workshop and learn how to transform raw sheep fleece into beautiful handspun yarn using a drop spindle. This beginner-friendly spinning class guides you step-by-step through fiber preparation, carding, spinning, and finishing techniques. Perfect for beginners, craft enthusiasts, knitters, crocheters, and anyone curious about sustainable fiber arts.

Workshop Highlights
- Raw Fiber Preparation: Learn to sort, clean, and wash fleece straight from the sheep.
- Carding & Combing: Prepare your fibers using hand carders, combs, and a drum carder.
- Drop Spindle Spinning: Master proper posture and Z-twist technique to spin your first yarn.
- Plying & Finishing: Stabilize your yarn with S-twist and give it a professional finish.
- Yarn Analysis: Measure your yarn (WPI – wraps per inch) and document it for future knitting, weaving, or crochet projects.

- 60 g of fiber
- Drop spindle and carding tools for use during the workshop

About Marie-Pierre Chabot
Marie-Pierre Chabot is a passionate artisan and founder of Mapi Créations, dedicated to promoting local and sustainable fibers. Currently enrolled in the OHS spinning certification program at Haliburton School of Art, she travels in her “Wool-mobile” to source premium fleeces directly from farmers.
Marie-Pierre’s approach to spinning goes beyond technique—it’s about connecting with the fiber and mastering the craft. She emphasizes proper terminology, precise hand movements, and supports each student to gain confidence in handspinning, fiber preparation, and yarn making.
