Sign up for a traditional spinning wheel workshop and learn to master every step of transforming wool into yarn.
The workshop takes place in Montreal and consists of three sessions offered on three consecutive weekends, totaling 18 hours of learning.

It is suitable for beginners as well as those already experienced, who wish to perfect their skills and deepen their knowledge.


Sundays, January 18 and 25, and February 1, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CONTENT

·         Spinning wheel anatomy and spinning theory

·         Quebec spinning wheels vs modern spinning wheels

·         Brief history of spinning

·         Sheep’s wool and its characteristics: washing raw fleece

·         Fiber preparation: carding, combing, and blending board

·         Four spinning techniques and their variations

·         Three plying techniques and their variations

·         Different ways to finish handspun yarn

·         Making a skein

·         Color theory

·         … and many hours of assisted spinning practice!

·         At the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with at least one 2-ply skein of handspun wool.

 

PREQUESITE: None

INCLUDED

·         Unlimited sheep’s wool (except raw fleece), provided as washed, carded, and combed roving

·         Detailed course notes (approximately 20 pages) to support continued learning after the workshop

 

WHAT TO BRING

·         Light and comfortable indoor shoes that allow you to feel the spinning wheel treadle (avoid thick-soled athletic shoes)

·         Scissors or thread snip

·         Notebook for taking notes, if desired

·         Your own spinning wheel, small tools, or animal fibers (sheep, cat, dog, rabbit, alpaca, pony), if desired

·         Free parking and bike racks are available next to the building.

·         A small kitchenette is provided (fridge, microwave, and unlimited coffee).
