Weaving Class – Introduction to the 4-Shafts Table Loom

Learn how to prepare, warp, and use a multi-shaft table loom during this hands-on three-day weaving class in Montreal.
Designed for beginners, this course takes you through the essential steps of a weaving project. Using a 4-shaft table loom, you will learn how to prepare and measure a warp, thread the heddles, sley the reed, dress the loom, and begin weaving.
You will create a small cotton towel while putting these skills into practice and exploring different weave structures.
The goal is to give you the knowledge and confidence to prepare and complete your own weaving projects independently.
No previous weaving experience is required.
Choose Your Loom
I’ll bring my own loom
Bring your own table loom with a minimum of four shafts and learn directly on your equipment.
I’ll use a studio loom
A table loom will be provided for you for the duration of the course.

- How to choose yarn and determine sett
- The basics of reading a weaving draft
- How to calculate yarn requirements
- How to measure a warp using the indirect warping method
- How to thread the heddles and sley the reed
- How to dress and wind the warp onto the loom
- Techniques for creating an even, balanced weave
- How to identify and correct common weaving problems
- How to finish your project
Skill Level
Beginner — no previous weaving experience is required.
This class is also well suited to anyone who already owns a multi-shaft loom and would like to gain the skills and confidence to use it more independently.
Schedule
Friday — 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday — 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Sunday — 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Included
All yarn and materials required for the project are included, along with an illustrated reference booklet covering the key techniques introduced during the course.
A table loom is also provided if you select the “I’ll use a studio loom” option.
What to Bring
A notebook and pencil.
If you are bringing your own loom, additional information will be sent to you before the course.

About Your Instructor
Yde Bouchard is a weaver, and founder of Irène Textile, a weaving studio, shop, and school in Montreal.
She is continuing her studies through the Olds College Master Weaver Program, with a focus on weave structures, fibres, colour, and textile design. Her teaching approach emphasizes practical learning and helping weavers develop confidence and independence at the loom.
Cancellation Policy
Registrations are non-refundable due to the small class size. If you are unable to attend, your registration may be transferred to another person at no additional charge with advance notice.
If Irène Textile cancels the course, you will receive a full refund or may transfer your registration to a future date.
