ABOUT THE COURSE
This course is designed to give you a solid foundation in floor loom weaving, with a particular focus on learning how to plan a project and dress a loom from start to finish.
The goal is for each participant to leave with the knowledge and confidence needed to continue weaving independently.
You will learn the essential steps involved in preparing a floor loom, from choosing suitable yarns and determining sett to calculating yarn requirements, winding a warp, dressing the loom using the indirect method, and beginning to weave.
Time will also be set aside to weave samples and explore different structures. The amount of weaving time will depend on how quickly each participant completes the loom-dressing process.
Class size is kept small to create an environment that encourages learning, questions, and personalized instruction.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
No previous weaving experience is required.
This course is designed for beginners who would like to develop a strong foundation in floor loom weaving.
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
The course is taught in French, with assistance available in English as needed.

WHAT TO BRING
- Notebook and pencil
- Participants may use one of the studio looms or bring their own floor loom
If you plan to bring your own loom, please contact us before the course so we can make sure it is suitable for the workshop.

- A kitchenette is available with a refrigerator, microwave, and complimentary coffee.
- Before the workshop, participants will receive an email reminder with practical information and everything they need to know to prepare for the course.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Because our classes are intentionally kept small, workshop registrations are non-refundable.
If you are unable to attend, your registration may be transferred to another person at no additional charge. Simply let us know in advance.
If we need to cancel a workshop due to low enrolment or unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a full refund or have the option to transfer your registration to a future date.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Yde Bouchard is the founder of Irène Textile, a weaving shop, studio, and school in Montreal.
With an academic background in visual arts, she has continued her textile education through specialized training.
She is also pursuing the Master Weaver program at Olds College in Alberta, an in-depth program dedicated to the study of weaving structures, techniques, design, and textile craftsmanship.
Yde is a member of several weaving organizations, including the Tisserins de Laval, the Association des tisserandes du Québec, and the Guild of Canadian Weavers.
Through her teaching, she aims to make weaving approachable while giving students the technical foundations they need to continue exploring the craft independently.
