COURSE DESCRIPTION

Learn to weave a rug using a woven technique known as the weft-faced. The loom will have been previously mounted with a warp. Each participant will leave with their own designed and handwoven wool rug!

  • Introduction to the loom and how it works
  • Introduction to the weft-faced technique
  • How to choose fiber for warp and weft
  • Design and calculation of material requirements
  • Tips and tricks for good weaving
  • Carpet finishing

    No previous experience is required.

        WHAT TO BRING

        Notebook and pencil.

        GOOD TO KNOW

        • A kitchenette is available (fridge, microwave and unlimited coffee).
        • The workshop will be given in French with help for English participants
        • Prior to the workshop date, students will receive an e-mail reminder with full workshop details.

          CANCELLATION POLICY

          Due to small class sizes, we are unable to offer refunds for workshops. If, for any reason, you are unable to attend, you have the option of sending someone in your place or registering for another date.

          ABOUT JOANIE

          Graduate inAgricultural Production from École d'agriculture from Nicolet (2016) and inTextile Construction from the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles (2022),she was awarded the Prix Coup de Coeur by the Institut des Métiers d'art in2022. Passionate about traditional textile skills such as weaving and natural dyeing, she dedicates a part of her year to the culture of dye plants and to technical research on her loom.
