COURSE DESCRIPTION
Tapestry is the creation of images by weaving and painting with fibers. The objective of this course is to learn the basic techniques of traditional tapestry on a small portable loom. We'll experiment with building shapes, mixing colors and choosing materials.

- How to warp a frame loom
- How to weave geometric shapes
- How to finish and display your tapestries
SKILLS REQUIRED
This is an introductory course for beginners as well as for those with other weaving experience.
INCLUDES

- Warp threads
- Tapestry spool
WHAT TO BRING
- Darning needle
- scissors
- At least two colors of yarn of the same size - preferably natural fibers such as cotton, linen or wool
- Pencil/pen and notebook/sketchbook

- A kitchenette is at your disposal (fridge, microwave and unlimited coffee).

Due to small class sizes, we are unable to offer refunds for workshops. If, for any reason, you are unable to attend, you have the option of sending someone in your place or registering for another date.
ABOUT JESSICA
Jessica Brouder is an Irish-Canadian visual artist and art educator living and working in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. She holds an MA in Medium and Material Based Art (Textiles) from the National Academy of Art, Oslo, Norway, an MFA from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London, England, and a BFA in Painting from the School of Art and Design, Limerick, Ireland. Jessica Brouder has participated in numerous residencies and exhibitions in Europe, North America and Australia.
Drawing inspiration from folk art and craft, Brouder's material practice begins with locally collected environmental and societal debris, which form the main conceptual and material source. Brouder uses traditional textile techniques to transform everyday ephemera.
