Parkland Wool Blanket – Twill Weaving Workshop

Join us for an intensive three-day weaving workshop in Montreal and experience the pleasure of creating your own handwoven blanket with Canadian Parkland wool.

During the workshop, you will weave a warm and comfortable throw using twill, a timeless weave structure that brings out the natural texture, character, and beauty of wool.

As you work on your blanket, we will explore how fibre, sett, and weave structure interact to create a balanced and beautiful finished cloth. You will also develop a better understanding of working with wool on a multi-shaft loom and of the techniques involved in weaving a larger project.

To make the most of our time together, the looms will be fully warped and ready to weave when you arrive. This allows you to focus on weaving, developing your technique, and enjoying the process of seeing your blanket take shape over the course of the weekend.

At the end of the workshop, you will leave with your own handwoven Parkland wool blanket and a deeper understanding of weaving with wool.

Skills level 

This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as weavers with previous experience.

Because the looms will already be warped and ready to weave, no warping experience is required for this workshop.

Basic familiarity with a loom is helpful, but previous experience with twill weaving is not required.

The workshop will be taught primarily in French, with explanations and assistance available in English as needed.

About Shannon

Parkland wool, developed by Traceable Textiles in Alberta, is part of an approach dedicated to increasing the value and use of Canadian wool while supporting local fibre production and processing.

Traceable Textiles works with small local farms and uses the wool available within its region as the starting point for its textile practice. The fibres are carefully selected and prepared before being processed in Canada.

The result is a warm, beautifully textured wool yarn particularly well suited to weaving blankets and throws.

During this workshop, we will use Parkland wool to explore the relationship between fibre, weave structure, and finished cloth while creating a functional, comfortable, and durable blanket.

Due to the small class size, we are unable to offer refunds for workshops. However, if you are no longer able to attend, your registration is fully transferable at no extra cost — just let us know in advance.

If we must cancel a workshop (due to low enrollment or other circumstances), you will receive a full refund or have the option to reschedule for a later date.
